Deadline Extended – Digital Technology Awards 2016

The deadline for entries to 2016 Digital Technology Awards has been extended to Wednesday 2nd March.

Applications are welcomed from all spheres of the digital technologies industry in Scotland with categories ranging from Best B2C Technology Product / Service to Star Performance of the Year.

The ScotlandIS team checked in on some of last year’s winners and nominees; What have they been up to since lifting that coveted glass trophy we wondered?

First up is FreeAgent, joint winner of one of 2015’s new categories, Outstanding Marketing Performance by a Tech Company. Proving that its marketing team has the X factor, the cloud accounting business has continued to increase its customer base and now has over 40,000 freelancers and small businesses on its books. The company also released a major update for its app and introduced an Android version, making it easier for busy customers to keep on top of their accounts while on the move.

More than worthy of an honourable mention is marketing runner up and winner of Best Newcomer in 2014, Mallzee. The fashion app’s CEO and founder, Cally Russell, certainly started 2016 with a bang when he was named in Forbes magazine’s influential 30 under 30 Europe list. And after turning down an investment offer from Peter Jones on Dragons’ Den last year, the company secured a £2.5 million investment and doubled the size of its team.

Last year’s winner of the Best Public Sector gong was Sitekit in conjunction with Maverick TV for  ‘Living It Up’, the Scottish Government’s wellbeing portal. The hub is designed to help the over 50s get to grips with tech, manage well being and take control of their health. Since Sitekit’s brush with fame at last year’s awards, CEO Campbell Grant has been featured in Holyrood Magazine’s ‘Tech 100’, the list of the most influential people driving forward Scotland’s digital agenda. The health tech specialists also released major updates to the hub throughout the year.

Until recently FanDuel was the homegrown global success story flying under the radar in Scotland. All of that has changed since winning Best B2C Technology Product/Service last year. (Coincidence? We don’t think so!) As one of Scotland’s ‘unicorns’ with an ever-growing media presence, the company has amassed a mighty clippings book in the last twelve months. Never ones to rest on their laurels, 2015 saw the fantasy sports company raise a further $275 million in funding, open an office in Glasgow and reach over a million active paying users.

While FanDuel has had a very exciting 12 months, we shouldn’t forget Swipii, also shortlisted for B2C 2015 and another Scottish rising star. Swipii is now the fastest growing digital loyalty and marketing company in the UK and is going from strength to strength. With its technology installed in over 600 locations, the ‘Swipii squid’ is becoming a common sight in independent retailers all over the country. The Scotsman recently named co-founder, Louis Schena, among the five most innovative entrepreneurs under 30 in Scotland.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 2 March 2016 and the awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 20 April 2016 at The Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.
